"Deep Deep Inside" is a surreal coming-of-age graphic novel that I both wrote and illustrated, blending traditional pencil drawings with bold digital colours. The story revolves around two troubled characters seeking inner peace through love: a boy burdened by his family's emotional baggage and a fish constrained by societal expectations. Their journey is symbolic and puzzle-like, delving into themes of freedom, individuality, and the complexities of love. As their paths cross, they form an intense but ambiguous relationship that challenges the notion of whether love truly liberates or ensnares them in dependency. The artwork poignantly captures human nature and overlooked common experiences, creating a visually and emotionally rich narrative. The book was Highly Commended for The Macmillan Prize of Illustration in 2023.
